With every roll of film you develop, you plant a tree in areas affected by severe deforestation. In this way, you help to revitalise ecosystems and strengthen local communities.

    Why trees?

At DASEIN, we are all about capturing the moment - and doing so consciously. Our love of analogue photography is closely linked to our appreciation of our planet, which we want to preserve in all its facets. Every image and every roll of film that you entrust to us for development stands for this idea, and when we spent nine months in Africa in 2023/24, we saw first-hand how valuable forests are disappearing. This moved us deeply and made us realise that we wanted to actively do something to protect and restore nature.

These two photos were taken three years apart and show the growth of Ceriops tagal and Rhizophora mucronata at the reforestation site, Tudor Creek in Kenya.

    Planting trees to grow forests

Planting trees in Africa is crucial because it helps both the environment and the local people. Reforestation projects help to improve soil and water quality and stabilise the local climate. In areas that are heavily affected by deforestation, the new trees ensure greater biodiversity and protect against soil erosion, and the plantations also create jobs for the local population. The local people plant and care for the trees, which provides them with a stable income and prospects. In this way, the communities benefit directly from a greener environment that strengthens their livelihoods and protects future generations.
