The Fomapan 400 has been produced by Foma in Hradec Králové, North Bohemia, since 1921. This black and white film is known for its favourable price and flexibility. It offers a relatively high tolerance for exposure errors, although the shadow detail is somewhat weaker. Compared to more expensive films such as the Ilford Delta 400 or Kodak Tri-X, it has lower sharpness, fine grain and halation protection. Nevertheless, it remains a good choice for price-conscious photographers.
Features at a glance:
- ISO 400: Flexible for different lighting conditions
- Error-tolerant: Forgives exposure errors
- Inexpensive: Cheapest option among ISO 400 films
- Available as: 35mm, roll and sheet film
- Sharpness and fine grain: Inferior to premium films
